Why did I choose the name Golden Hands for my practice? Years ago, my mom would share a story about how while growing up, her father, my dear Grandpa Julius, would comment whenever he noticed someone with a special way about them and how it seemed that everything they touched turned to gold. He would tell her they had Goldene Hendt — Golden Hands! When she said that I too had “Goldene Hendt”, it touched me deeply. A few years later, I gave a massage to a very special woman visiting the states from Argentina. Even though she spoke little English, it was very clear to me how much she loved her massage session. Her exact words: “Tú tiénes manos de oro” (Hands of Gold)!!! Confirmation! It gave me goosebumps, and I knew I had to use that name. Hence, Golden Hands Massage Therapy was born!
Besides my grandfather, this site would not be complete with acknowledging my parents. My mother, Ruth, has always believed in me and my gifts and talents and she has always supported and encouraged me to use them and express them fully. My late father, Howie Katz, an osteopathic physician, also encouraged me by his example of stepping outside of tradition. He was one of the first physicians back in the 1970's to pioneer using acupuncture techniques in his medical practice. He also volunteered his medical services in the N.Y. State Prison System and encouraged an ethic that involved giving back. I remember having a conversation with him as a teenager. I asked him about being a doctor and about healing, and he gave me a great gift. He said to me: “I do not do the healing. God does the healing.” That philosophy and humility stay with me, and his legacy and pioneering spirit live on through me.
